Angela Bonten Biography

Angela Bonten (Anjy) has been an artist for over 20 years.

Born in Wales, Angela moved to Canada in her early twenties and received her art education from Grant MacEwan College Edmonton.  Angela graduated from both the Fibre Art and Fine Art programs and returned to complete the Arts Adminstration/Museum Management program.

Initially Angela was working in fibre, primarily dying and papermaking  but because of the toxicity of the dyes returned to painting.

Over the years she has taught many painting workshops plus the art form of papermaking, including japanese techniques as well as dying techniques such as shibori and batik.

Anjy teaches art lessons at her studio at the Rotary Centre for the arts.  She is an instructor and a director for Cool Arts an organisation that offers art programs for adults with learning disabilities. As co-ordinator for Artscape she is responsible for organising exhibitions for professional and emerging artists in public venues in Kelowna such as the public libraries, Okanagan College and Kelowna Community Theatre.

Exhibitions include juried shows in Alberta, B.C., Nova Scotia and Newfoundland as well as solo shows.  Angela has appeared on Maritime Breakfast T.V., Okanagan Now and Shaw Cable Network.  Articles include a feature in the Globe and Mail, Capital news, Beyond 50 magazine, Madeleine magazine  and Edmonton Journal.
